  • I would class this as an easy none thinking read

Interesting story but lacks the complexity I expect from Isabel Allende. Good character development

  • An enjoyable read.

I was very comfortable with the book and enjoyed the writer's style. This is not the first of her books I have read and this novel confirms my opinion. To be a writer you need to study what writers do and how they hone their craft. Isobel Allende is an outstanding example in this respect.

  • Actually 3.5 stars

After loving A Long Petal of the Sea, I was looking forward to reading another Allende. Although I quite enjoyed it, it didn't quite live up to my expectations. Three people, two of whom know each other slightly and all of whom come from different countries in South America, are stranded in a blizzard in up-state New York. They are there to get rid of a car with a body in the boot. To pass the time, they tell each other their life stories, bits of which are quite shocking. It was interesting and I was keen to find out what eventually happens to them and the car and the body, but I didn't find it compelling. Perhaps because the back-stories went on for a bit too long. Nevertheless, I am actually still glad I read it.

    Thanks for your feedback!
