  • Good, but not great

A good book, but I don't think it lives up to the other books in the Culture series that came before it.

  • Inversion - a different culture story

I've read quite a few of Iain M Banks books because they require concentration and some effort to really understand and appreciate the story. Inversion is no different, set in an apparently medieval world the main characters are the doctor, her assistant, the protectors bodyguard and one of his concubines. The story is told in the first person by the doctors assistant. The characters are quite believable and the story is well written. It took me a little time to realise that it was a culture story with an interesting twist at the end. Different to other culture stories but worth a read
