  • The New World Order

I have to say, I think this is a fantastic book. While Browns original trilogy was very good and had much originality in it, it could not help but live in the realm of "Angst Youth Breaks The System" seemingly highlighted by "The Hunger Games". This series, however, is something new! It is not the story of how an Empire was toppled, but what happens afterwards. What happens when a terrible regime is brought down. Nothing noble. While I initially loved Red Rising for its ability to craft a glorious mixture of truly grey characters, with even the worst being made understandable, this series is where it really kicks off. Even Darrow comes away as less the noble warrior fighting for what is right, and more a dubious killer with an inability to stop. What this book does suffer from is an excess of plot lines, which are all individually interesting and do dove-tail well together but can sometimes bog the flow of the story down (90% of the book seemingly takes place in just a few weeks). Overall though, if you enjoyed the first series this is a series I would absolutely recommend!

  • Not as good as the first 3

The first 3 books put the bar too high. They were a breath of fresh air, something different, something unique. Many of the twists & surprises were unexpected. Iron Gold is decent. But it lacks the pace of the first 3 books. One reason this is the case is because of the several viewpoints. I think the red girl and the ep guy should have been committed. They just slowed the book down, let boredom and lack of interest creep in. I hope these 2 character viewpoints are omitted from the next book. Or, if they must continue, at least take one out. The real interesting story was through Darrow's & Lysander. Or, perhaps, my expectations were too high for Iron Gold.

    Thanks for your feedback!
