  • James Cook, a "taster" of the highlights

What Fitzsimons has done is very good - Cook's early life and the lead up to his first circumnavigation, then the actual voyage. Then he gets lazy. There is almost nothing but a passing reference to his second voyage - but no detail. Then his 3rd and final voyage - is basically all about how he was killed in Hawaii. I really wanted more but what he has done is excellent.

  • Cook the man indeed!

An excellent read. This is the fourth book I've read on Cook and it filled alot of gaps I had on how Cook came to be in charge of the first voyage. There are other books which better describe the three voyages, but this fits the bill if the reader is interested in Cook the man. well done Fitzsimons.
