  • Not the thrilling tale promised on the cover.

The best thing about this book was that it did link in with actual historical events. However the detail on any of these was sparse. There was no real depth to any of the characters in the story, though at the beginning there was the tantalising prospect that there could be. No empathy for any of the characters was generated, as a reader I couldn't engage with any of them and had only a passing interest in whether they lived or died. It was a little like reading a story written by a year 10 English student who has yet to master the art of giving characters any depth. In fact it felt like the bare bones of a story waiting to be developed. Disappointing. Didn't hate it enough to stop reading, but probably wouldn't have given it the time if not for being in lockdown.

    Thanks for your feedback!
