  • Love This Series

This is the second in the Night Calls series, so if you haven't read Night Calls you should read that first. Alfreda is a wonderful character that I enjoy spending time with. She's feisty, practical, down-to-earth & determined. She's feeling her way through coping with the magic powers she discovered in "Night Calls", and we see the world from her point of view. I love the world Kat Kimbriel has created - magic in the Appalachians during the 1800s (I think). One reviewer described these books as "Harry Potter meets Little House on the Prairie", but Little House with witches, werewolves and other beasties that go bump in the night! I found these when I began to look around to see if Kimbriel had written any books since the Nuala books in the '80s and these popped up. I haven't for most of my life been a fantasy reader, but this is a whole lot better than your average sword & sorcery fantasy.

    Thanks for your feedback!
