  • Heart warming

When Kurt Manchester was heading toward his home town in Kentucky after serving thirteen years as a navy SEAL he had mixed feelings, Kur's life had changed when his mother died and his father took to the bottle, he was thrust into the foster care system and from then on was always in trouble. He was on a mission to rescue a retired war dog, Sabine, who had fallen from the radar, these dogs served their country and saved many lives and deserved a happy retirement., this one had been seen scrounging food near a diner and was in danger of being shot. Bumping into Laurie Ann had been the last thing on his mind........or had it ? He and Laurie Ann had been in love through high school but they were from different sides of the track, she was heading for med school and he was heading toward prison or worse, he had to get away, his salvation would be the navy and that became his life until his accident. He ran into Laurie Ann on his first day and it was clear from the start that the attraction was still there but things in the town didn't go well, the police have long memories and second chances don't come easy. A gang of young thugs were terrorising the town and Kurt, and in turn Laurie Ann who was now a doctor, became targets. The action is fast paced , the injuries and deaths begin to escalate but would anyone believe bad boy Kurt even if he had spent thirteen years serving his country. Love blossomed between Kurt and Laurie Ann but she had reasons for not being able to leave the town, could Kurt settle here or would his reputation still count against him? Could he find Sabine ? Another great story in the K9 series I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

  • Justice is served!

I just love the rescue of these War Dogs. They’ve honorably served their handlers and their country and now deserve to have a safe, comfortable life after coming home. It’s an intriguing encounter when Kurt unexpectedly runs into Laura Ann, his ex, at the local diner as he is getting into town after being gone for many years. Unfortunately, he also runs into the local police detective who knew Kurt as a troublesome kid and an even more trouble making young adult. This particular law enforcement officer doesn’t believe Kurt ever grew up and out of his trouble making ways and makes no bones about his opinion towards Kurt right from the start. Thirteen years in the Navy forced Kurt to reevaluate his life and showed him the correct path his life would take. Laura Ann can definitely see the mature, grown man Kurt has grown into, even his way of talking is more thoughtful and forward thinking. Kurt’s main focus for getting to town is locating and rescuing Sabine, the female War Dog that has been missing for quite some time. He talks with the diner folks and finds out that a mean, vicious dog was hanging around the diner at some point so that is where Kurt will start his search for her. Unfortunately, a gang of young teens force a confrontation with Kurt who quickly shows them that he’s not afraid of them nor is he intimidated by their attitudes and threats. He is quick to show the so called leader that he won’t take any of their abuse and dishes out a little justified reaction himself. It’s sad to know that gangs don’t just give up, they keep on coming when you least expect it. I enjoyed the easy way Kurt learned Laura Ann’s teenage son, Jeremy is in fact his son as well. A son they both created thirteen years ago when Kurt needed to get away and right before he entered into the Navy leaving Laura Ann behind. Unbeknown to him, she was pregnant at that time and didn’t tell him. She knew he needed to leave, this town was a dead end for him and she didn’t want to stand in his way so she said good bye. Now, Kurt knows about Jeremy and has many questions which they both find it hard to discuss, but know it’s necessary, to revisit what happened all those years ago. This story gets a bit intense when the gang members bring a gun into the situation and show no hesitation about using it on Laura Ann and Kurt. They find however, that Kurt is no slouch when it comes to protecting himself, Laura Ann and his new friend, Sabine. I find it very heartwarming how quickly Sabine learns to trust Kurt and knows that he is one of the good guys. Such a great story with new families and satisfying reunions. I loved it!

  • Kurt and His War Dog

This is a fun story with a retired Navy SEAL, his search for a war dog and finding a lost love. Funny, romantic, a possibility of a future, while danger lurks. A great story and a serious page turner (remember the danger). Bravo!! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

  • A heartaching, thrill ride

Kurt and Laurie Ann's story will have your heart aching as it also races with excitement. The skillfully crafted combination of emotion, drama, action, suspense and danger is intoxicating and consuming. I was quickly pulled into this story and found myself having a very hard time putting it aside to take care of the other things that had to be done. Laurie Ann and Kurt were easy to like and feel for. I was rooting for them all the way. Of my own accord I am posting an objective review.
