  • Such an intriguing book

This most unusual book follows the adventures of Ursula as she lives many variations of her life and death. This is such a hard book to describe, a bit like a choose your own adventure with all of the alternative endings, except that once Ursula's life has ended, we relive an alternative life, sometimes starting again at her birth, at other times, starting prior to another significant event. She is born in 1910 to a privileged family in England and the many storyline follow her life as she tries to "get it right". Some chapters are short as Ursula finds her future cut short by accidents and disasters, other much longer as we read about years of her life. I found I read a lot of this book with my heart in my mouth, once I had established the pattern of events, wondering just what would end Ursula's life this time. I think I will reread this, just to take note of the subtle differences between scenarios.

  • Life after Life

I found the characters entertaining and a different and unusual way of writing. Once you got used to the concept it was very well done. Ursula is a strong character with compassion. Worth a read.

  • Life afterLife

A very interesting novel. Ursula is different, she lives her life over and over each time quite differently, or is it? Took a while to get into it but a fascinating story, particularly as it is set during both world wars. The author has done meticulous research into that period, particularly the work of air raid wardens. Worth reading for its interesting story line alone. I enjoyed it.

  • It stays with you

I was about a quarter of the way into this book before I began to understand then embrace its form. She, Kate Atkinson, writes wonderfully well. Although I would advise to pay attention to the chapter headings as the story twists and turns on itself. A very good read.
