    Death and unfinished business

Wonderful book that mixes history with fantasy. Set on the night of the death of Abraham Lincoln’s son, Willie, this deals with death and the unfinished businesses of life, told from the perspective of historical accounts and the stories of, for want of a better word, ghosts. It’s sad and funny and very human, and written in a short, punchy, engaging style that meant I raced through it in a few days. Highly recommend.

    Different but interesting

An original way of writing. Once into the style I enjoyed the book. Saunders certainly has done a lot of research. I learnt much about Lincoln.

    Living dead

A unique and startlingly clever book. The interconnect of ghosts, Lincoln and the Civil war creates an insight into those minds and times in a truly unusual way. The poetry of the varied voices is sublime.

    Amazing

When I first started this book I wondered what on earth I was reading but as I progressed I could not put it down. It was as though all the characters were speaking directly to me.
