  • An adventure I didnt want to end!

This is a fine western, a cattle drive, outlaws, indians, horsethieves, mateship and courage , all the elements are there. What sets Lonesome Dove apart is the complex relationships between the large cast of characters who are themselves anything but one dimensional. At the centre of the story is the relationship between Gus and Call, two ex Texas Rangers who are almost opposites in nature and habit but have a deep friendship forged in the years of rangering together. The story is a journey and takes us on an emotional journey, the pace varies just as a journey does, some parts drag almost causing the reader to abandon the book in impatience , then suddenly some crisis will occur and the reader is racing across the pages. There is humour and sadness, longing and regret and when it finally ends, there is that feeling of having lost a friend!

  • I don't like westerns. I don't like romance novels

But I loved - LOVED - this book. One of my all time favourites.
