    Great reading

In the age of GPS and smart phones that tell us where we are, it's easy to forget that not too long ago navigation was a mix of art and science and many a sailor met their death due to the inherent inaccuracies and difficulties. Dava Sobel traces the history of how the elusive issue of determining longitude was finally solved, and it's a great story that also speaks of the injustice of Britain c controlled by a rigid class system. Easy to read and engaging, a fantastic book.

    Longitude

A book I enjoyed thoroughly. The author writes with enthusiasm and a certain wry humour of the all too human proponents in this fascinating tale. And science is presented as the truly absorbing basis of all our lives and mankind's achievements it is.
