  • Zander tops the book boyfriend list!

This is the fourth title in the Pine Harbour series, each of which has featured the wonderful combination of small town romance with sexy contemporary style. They are all standalone novels featuring different couples getting their happy endings. Zander's brother Rafe is married to Olivia, his sister Dani is with long time friend Jake, his good friend Ryan has partnered with movie star actress Hope and he couldn't be happier for them, even if he sometimes feels a pang of loneliness. A career army man, after twenty years in the service he's decided to retire, not sure what he'll end up doing next, but visiting his home town of Pine Harbour while he decides on his next move. Meeting widow Faith (whom we were introduced to as a secondary character in Ryan's story, Love on a Spring Morning) in the diner on the eve of his arrival into town sparks a desire in him to find out more about the woman whom he finds quite fascinating. Zander's plans are to be in town for a week, then head back to his base in Alberta, still with no definite plans for the future. But developing a friendship with Faith suddenly becomes more important than anything, and he's willing to risk a chink in his armor if she'll consider the same. Naturally hesitant after the loss of her husband, and with all her focus on her 5 year old son, the last thing Faith is looking for is a new man in her life. Can Zander convince her that if she'll just give him a chance, he'll come back to stay with her, for good? I think I'm going to be hard pressed to find another book boyfriend as perfect as Zander. Seriously, he's all that and a bag of chips. He's funny, sweet, sexy, enough alpha to satisfy any woman and at the same time a patient, kind and understanding person. After his first encounter with Faith he knows it's not going to be enough, and meeting up with her again just solidifies for him that even though she's trying to hold him at arm's length, she is the one he can see as part of his future. Some of the story portrays their long distance relationship, as Zander still has obligations to his military career and travels back and forth. I thought that was portrayed realistically, and if absence makes the heart grow fonder, it definitely works on Faith. Zander's a wonderful father figure for Faith's son too, and seeing a strong, confident male show that parental side is enough to give your ovaries a zing. The sexual chemistry between Zander and Faith is present from their first meeting, and we get some surprisingly steamy scenes between them as they connect on an intimate level. Faith may guard her heart from Zander at first, but he does a pretty good job of wearing her down. Equally interesting was seeing the other couples in this story, in particular Jake and Dani whose wedding we witness here. The friendships and family relationships all have that warmhearted feel to them, which isn't to say that conflicts don't arise, but that there is no doubt that they have strong bonds that can weather any storm. And while there are some emotional moments in the story, I found it to be very low in angst with lots of laughter and sweetness. I'm going to call this one as my favourite in the series so far (and really, they've all been excellent). 5 stars.

  • Fell In Love With This Book In The Summer!

I had never read Zoe York before, and boy, was I missing out! Again, Canadian Romance Authoresses and their books, are out of this world, amazing! "Love On A Summer Night", book four in the "Pine Harbour Series" was one of the best books that I have read in 2021. Fantasy Fiction Novelist and Devoted Mother, Faith Davidson, is completely shattered and has extreme rules to protect herself, her loved ones, and most of all her heart. Life has not been kind to this vivacious and gentle woman. However, she has tried to deal with her issues and grief to the best of her ability, with support from her small family and the community of Pine Harbour, Ontario. Fortunately, life and fate have other ideas of what Faith really needs and wants, these items and situations are completely unexpected. If she will open herself up a bit, then there might be a tall, dark, handsome, and sweet surprise that will transform her life and being. Will she take this sudden leap of faith? Army Officer and Prodigal Son of Pine Harbour, Alessandro "Zander" Minelli, is standing at a fork in the road, where huge decisions about the next chapters in his life are looming. Change is always difficult but a necessary part of life. He has decided to take the wait and see approach. Coming back home after a long period of time is difficult and he has to deal with the sense of being alone, even while being present amongst his family and friends. At this point in time, he is unsure about what would lead to his happiness and peace, but he is very aware that he is seeking something substantial. And while he searches, a certain beautiful someone might be arriving in the same place where he is stopping. This might be the beginning of something remarkable, however, only time will tell... This story was phenomenal. It had the power to make me smile, wince, laugh out loud, cry, empathize, hurt, understand, and agonize. The roller coaster of emotions that I felt was well worth the read. Every situation, the pace, the protagonists, the supporting characters, the ambiance, and the additional characters, whose stories are being told in subsequent books, are all utterly flawless. I am so enamoured by the writing style, the story telling, and the depth of the novel, that I am eager to read more! There was touch of romance and hot scenes with realism and responsibility. I cannot say enough and I know I am gushing. If you are looking for a book with substance, heart, reality, and vulnerable characters, you have found your next read! You will not be disappointed. Lastly, I cannot wait to catch up with the other characters in the "Pine Harbour Series", while exploring other works by Zoe York!

  • He's all that AND he loves her son *swoon*

This is the Pine Harbour series book 4 and it is about Zander Minelli and Faith Davidson. Retiring from the military in six months, Zander hasn't completely decided on his next move. Meeting the beautiful author at Greta's Bakery left him feeling dazed. That was unusual but he liked it. Their attraction was mutual but Faith, a widow for 4 years, wants to concentrate on her 4year old son, Eric. "... and he thought, how is this beautiful woman all alone? How can I not pursue her?" -Zander *sigh* How can you not fall in love with a man that thinks like that? Zander is a good man and though he is everything Faith doesn't want, she has no control over her heart. Fantastic characters in a great story line. I can't wait for the next book in this fabulous series! Received a copy in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed is my own.

  • Zander and Faith are perfect

Zoe York first captured my interest with the first book in the Pine Harbour Series, Love In a Small Town. After that I was completely hooked and have read every book in this series as soon as it has come out. Love On a Summer Night has been no different. I received the book after a request through Netgalley, but I would have purchased it in a heartbeat if I had been refused. This has been a long awaited book for me and I was thrilled to read it. Faith Davidson isn’t a new character to the series but one we got to get a small glimpse of before. Widowed and a single Mom, Faith is struggling with work and making sure her 5 year old son has a good life. Before she was a Mother and widow, Faith loved life and adventurous living. When her thrill seeking husband dies in a skiing accident, Faith closes herself up in a bubble of safety and existence. Zander Minelli is the oldest of his siblings and doesn’t believe in love due to his earliest memories of his parent’s long forgotten breakup. Most do not recall his father leaving and his Mother dragging him back home to face his responsibilities, instead the see a loving couple who have been married for years. When Zander was old enough he joined the military and decided a family life wasn’t for him. But now he is leaving the military, older and unsure what his future holds. Zoe York writes contemporary romance set in small town areas of Canada. Her characters are bad boys with heart who make the perfect book boyfriends(especially Rafe and Zander) with her women strong and passionate. Her supporting characters are equally captivating as their lives are blended into the story foundation or used to keep it flowing. Sometimes she may surprise you by making them a leading character later as she did with Faith. Zoe draws you in so that you feel like you are reading a story of your friends and can’t wait to find out the end! I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.

  • A sweet read

I enjoyed reading this one. It was a bit slow with Faith being so reluctant to believe that Zander could be good for her. Her issues were a bit overblown, but that was her character. She eventually starts to move forward with him. He was patient and persistent with her. Allowing her to have her feelings as well as taking an interest in Erik. He made sure that he was there when he was needed for both of them A good sweet afternoon read.
