  • Action Galore

Full of non stop action but a little confusing going from past to present and back again. Still, a solid story.

  • Free short but read in timeline orde

Lover’s Knot is a free Dory novella set after Fury’s Kiss. The mental wall between Dory and Dorina is down but their communication is still lacking. So when Louis-Cesare disappears Dorina starts sending Dory memories to help her understand what’s happening. Only it all happens so fast and with very little context it’s hard to figure out the warning. This is a fantastic, fast-paced story that gives us more insight into Mircea’s early life as a vampire and more time with Radu and Kit Marlowe, two of my favorite vamps. We also learn about more enemies in the ever-growing war. This is a must read as it adds quite a bit to the overall story arc, just be sure to read it in order or there will be spoilers.

  • Dreams

This was a fun short story. Dory/Dorina/Mircea were both the main characters. It was a fun free short story. You can get the story from Karen Chances web site. It's full of action , suspense and wit. I love these characters.

  • "Lover's Knot" - Book 3.5 - Dorina Basarab series

I just finished reading this book July 23, 2017. This is my review. At the time of this review, this novella is a FREE read. It's longer than the average novella, coming in at 16 chapters (approx. 131 pages). I don't recommend reading it as a stand alone. There are characters and back story that need to be understood before you read this book. For story consistency, I would read the series first (there are only 3 books in this series so far). Dory is on a mission to find her missing boyfriend, Louis-Cesare. Who happens to be a senator on the Vampire Council. And he went missing because he was trying to find another council member. The mission takes Dory and her companions to Paris. Her Uncle Radu and Kit Marlowe. Tracking her boyfriend should be easy but nothing ever is when you have a second personality giving you visions of the past that make no sense. Yes, her vampire side, Dorina, is knocking Dory, her human side, out with every vision. Their communication is not going too well. But the visions are of her father, Mircea, in the past, before he became a Master Vampire. Is there a connection to what happened then and what's happening now? Dory must figure this out because there's a war brewing between vampires and mages and these memories could be the key. I liked this story. The story jumps from scenes of the past with Mircea to what's happening in the present with Dory. The story flows really well and the descriptions are so vivid. I love the humour in these books. The characters are all likable. The snappy back-and-forth quips between Dory and Marlowe are great. Radu supplies great comic relief as well. There hasn't been a book released in the Dorina Basarab series since 2012 but (at the time of this review) a new full book is on the way. This novella was a nice reminder about what's going on with Dory and how her series looks like it's going to interact with Ms. Chance's Cassy Pamler series. (Both series' take place in the same world and Mircea is in both series's). I look forward to reading the next book.

  • Fast paced exhilarating plot.

Four and a half stars! Another great Dorina Basarab story. I admire this feisty character. Irreverent, smart, sexy and highly primed to violence. In this book she is unfortunately aided by her vampire alter ego in the form of helpful visions which cause her to black out at the most embarrassing times and awkward places.
