    Enthralling Read

I loved the premise of this book which I found very unique - 5 friends get together weekly for lunch and take it in turn to tell each other stories. The story told over the lunches in this book is of Italy during the time of Mussolini. The story centres on an Italian peasant girl Cecilia and a German officer Friedrich. It moves between their lives during WW2 and also their modern day lives in Australia where, unknown to the other, each moved after the war. It is a fascinating story rich in historical detail but with well developed characters whose lives you become engrossed in. It started a little slowly, but the pace was very fast by the end. I'm looking forward to reading another book in this series.
