  • Mixed bag

I have to say I love Karen Chance and I love Mircea. But this was very slow but once it became interesting it was great fun. But it takes half the book to get there.

    Thanks for your feedback!

  • Hard to hate Mircea after this one ;)

Masks is a novel from Mircea’s POV starting a few years after he became a vampire. If you’re reading the series in order this can be read any time after Fury’s Kiss. But there really aren’t many spoilers for the series. We get to learn more about Mircea’s motivation and how he thinks. We also get to meet the Consul, which is one of my favorite parts. I think the only thing I don’t like about this book is it makes it harder to hate Mircea. He manipulates Cassie and Dory so much but now we get to see the world from his perspective.

  • An excellent read!

This is an excellent glimpse into Mircea's early years and even then he's getting into trouble not his own. Much like what happens centuries later when Cassie drags him into her own escapades. Although then he's a suave and capable master vampire, and a senator of the North American Senate no less, who can handle the problems that fall in his lap. But during the course of this story, he's only two years old, in vampire terms. That makes everything he does in this timeline far more fraught with difficulty and more dangerous for him to engage in because of it. The odds are overwhelmingly stacked against him in trying to figure out the threat he uncovers and then he becomes embroiled in the fight of his life at the end, just as Cleopatra and Antony fight to destroy the old Consul who has ruled over them all with tyranny, disdain, and cruelty for far too long. I won't say anything further for fear of giving away the plot or the ending of this book, but Ms. Karen Chance added another fine addition to her ongoing series dealing with all her wonderful characters, which, by now, are far too numerous to list here. I love them all in their own ways and now to the next book in the Cassie Palmer series.

  • Excellent prequel to the series.

I thoroughly enjoy the Dorina Baralaba series and have wanted more details about her father Mircea, now finally Mircea has his own book and it was well worth the long wait.
