  • Clever; well written; with a quirky detective.

I thoroughly enjoyed ‘Mile High Murder’ by Pamela Kenney. It has all the elements of a great whodunnit murder story: • A refreshingly quirky central character in former Toronto homicide detective, Meg Spencer, who wants nothing more than to enjoy a fun-packed retirement as far away as she can get from crime, flying bullets, and…dead bodies. • A dead body found in highly suspicious circumstances! • A planeload of suspects, including the dead man’s wife, his lover, and all the top employees of his highly successful, Fortune 500 company • A race against time for Meg to solve the case whilst the plane is still in the air Meg soon deduces the cause of death, but the actual murder weapon itself does not become evident until the end of the story. It took me by surprise, even though (with the benefit of hindsight) the clues are there. Can you do any better than me? Can you identify the murder weapon and solve the case before Meg does? Good luck trying! ‘Mile High Murder’ is a gentle, well-written book that fits well into the ‘Cosy’ murder mystery category – rather like a modern take on an Agatha Christie-type of story. It has a clever plot and a flawed but likeable detective with a wry sense of humour. I give it 5 stars & have no hesitation in recommending it.

  • Tidy but disappointingly short.

It’s advertised as a short, but there’s short and short. I rather hoped that when I got to page 27 and the solution to the first mystery that it was simply the end of a chapter. If all these are as short as this (about 18 minutes) then I would only buy a volume of at least 20. A murder mystery book should last several hours.

    Thanks for your feedback!
