    I wouldnt read again

I didn't like this book. It was very difficult to follow the storyline as the author goes off on long winding detours before returning back to the main focus by which point you have forgotten what was going on. I willed myself to finish this but only cos I was being stubborn and thinking there has to be more and a conclusion. But I felt there was none. There was many times where I felt is this long description ever going to end, I didn't feel a lot of it was relevant and numerous bits of information were just repeatitive. I kept finding myself saying come on get back to the story as the core storyline was interesting just far too many detours to keep me intrigued. Very unlikely I would read from this author again and I wouldn't recommend to my friends which is a shame because this could have been so much better.

    Outstanding!

I can see why it won the Booker Prize. Fresh, pognant, witty, thoughtful in a unique first-person style. Great insights into the Troubles, mysogyny, the 70s, adolescence. I could go on.

    Didn’t finish

As a premise the book sounds really interesting, and initially I was really drawn in. As it went on however, I found the style of writing quite long, tedious, and hard to read. Each sentence would ramble on and on and the story just didn’t seem to be progressing. I went back to it a few times hoping to get into it but eventually had to give up.

    Leiteiro azedo

Se há livro que anualmente espero, é o Booker Prize. Mas este, confesso, desiludiu-me. Não sou fã de uma narrativa sem enredo, de uma escrita que não me agarra, de uma história que não me encha. Não recomendo.

    This way madness

Although written in a style that takes some getting used to, this book is well worth the effort. His is Irish black humor at its best and most insightful. " The deeders of goodnesses" is a phrase I will treasure, along with the delightful "wee sisters" and the " maybe boyfriend".
