  • Foxes, Wolves, Mystery, and Mayhem

The werewolves have hunted fox shifters into near extinction, so two fox shifters living surrounded by wolves makes for some great drama. The stories in this set are fast-paced and full of action, suspense, mystery, and just a touch of romance as sisters Mai and Kira try to make their way in a world that seems out to get them. Here are my reviews for each book in this collection: Wolf's Bane - Great start to a new series and this time it's not only've got foxes too. Mai and her sister are all alone in the world and are two fox shifters in hiding surrounded by werewolves. With both her parents dead, Mai finds herself doing whatever she has to in order to protect her sister and their secret. A skilled fighter, Mai takes part in an underground fight club to help make ends meet. Gunner is an alpha werewolf who along with his pack leader brother and some other packmates has come to the city to try to discover who is behind some supernatural killings. Mai and Gunner's paths keep intersecting and the find themselves not only drawn together by circumstances but attraction as well. When faced with no other options, Mai reluctantly turns to Gunner for help only to find herself in over her head. When her little sister is kidnapped and her secret is on the verge of exposure, will Mai have the strength to do what needs to be done to save her sister? Will the revelation of her secret be the end or just the beginning? This book was action-packed and you will find yourself drawn into the story as you try to guess what will happen next and you will be brought along as Mai discovers more about her heritage. Shadow Wolf - Make sure you've read the first book in the series to really understand and enjoy this one. The second book picks up a little bit after the ending of the first with Mai and Kira settling into life within the werewolf pack. But Kira is mysteriously getting sicker and Mai is resisting accepting pack life. And to further complicate matters, Ransom returns and demands Gunner and his little pack return to the clan for a gathering. Mai's search for a solution to Kira's illness leads her right back to the pack and the one she believes is behind everything. But nothing is easy and things aren't as they seem. Strange dreams and malevolent magic surround this pack. The story was gripping and the twists and revelations made for an enthralling read that surprised me in the end. Fox Blood - While I'm sad to see this series come to its end, this book was fantastic. The story was filled with action, mystery, secrets, and love. Mai has grown so much as a character and person throughout the series and has faced some difficult choices but none as tough as the dilemma she faces in this book. Gunner has been by her side supporting her the whole time even when it has had some disastrous consequences and this book was no different. Lots of action and a few surprises and twists that had be devouring the story to see how it all ends. I'd love to see Kira get her own series in the future!

  • Interesting

Apparently werewolves and kitsunes do not mix. Mainly because of villains who take advantage of kitsune powers. I like that Mai is strong and willing to sacrifice to keep loved ones safe. Her werewolf friends are true and honorable. This is a well-written trilogy with a happy ending.

  • Classic werewolves with added dimension

3 great stories that need to be read in order to fully appreciate the story. I totally go with Mai's need for independence and the story fully explores this. The usual werewolves story was enhanced by the addition of the kitsunes. Relationships are covered both by the wolf packs and the kitsune and their interaction. Gunner's relationship with 'bad boy' brother Ransome and the way it affects the pack/s leads to a lot of history and leads to understanding. Mai and Kira are unusual which adds another dimension to an already loaded story. The romance is quiet with many problems caused by both sides - though Mai is seen to be the main problem, the depth of the story shows she's not the full problem. The 2nd book appears to have finished the problems, but not so. The 3rd book adds another dimension that keeps surprising and leads to another answer as to why kitsunes have been marked as 'bad', it seems as if Gunner and Mai will never be able to be mates!
