  • Oh how I want to live in Ms. Bay's stories!

Oh how I wish I could be in one of Ms. Bay's books! She writes about England and Scotland so beautifully, and with the knowledge that Americans are reading it too.  There is English slang, but it's easy to pick up on. I even felt a right bit smarter after reading it! So this is the lovely story of Beck and Stella. Two folks that need the other in a bit of an unorthodox way.  They are both getting what they want out of the deal they struck and then they get so much more. I was heartbroken for Stella at first, then when she found her inner fire and her strength, I was cheering her on hard!  She was no fragile English rose, she had thorns too!  I could empathize with her vulnerabilities and her issues of trust.  I mean who wouldn't have their foundation rocked if the same thing had happened to them. Beck, oh you dodgy fellow!  Beck thought he was living the charmed life.  He was determined to do what he had to to get what he wanted, no matter what the cost.  But was the price too high? You get beautiful descriptions of locations throughout Scotland in this story, you get the charm and cosmopolitan feeling of London too.  Ms. Bay has a magic to her words, she fully immerses her readers into her stories and that's a true testament to talented writing. This book was delightful and will give you all the feels! Get your hands on it!

  • Beck

Stella is almost the complete opposite of my personality, so it was really fun stepping into her mindset and venturing to new ways of thinking. Some people might have seen her as weak, but to me she was strong. Beck is just.. I can’t think of a good enough word for him! I’d let all of London watch whatever he wanted to do to me. Lol. And while the burn started slow... like a forest fire, it quickly spread and consumed everything around these characters and me. Oh, and that ending was everything I could have wanted. Louise gives us such great characters that you won’t want to say goodbye to! I’ll definitely need to revisit them In the future. I can’t wait for Dexter’s book. Hopefully we’ll get more glimpses into Beck and Stella in his book too.

  • This is officially my favorite book by Louise Bay

This is a fake relationship romance and I don't think I ever loved this trope so much as I do now. Stella is facing one heck of a humiliation. After loving and nurturing his boyfriend for years, even without realizing they were indeed over, after only two months, she receives a wedding invitation of dear boyfriend and aleggedly best friend. Being devasted, confused and humiliated is an understatement. Beck, in his own way, is also familiarized with rejection since his birth, and Stella's ex is exactly the kind of person he wants nothing to do with. But to right some wrongs and to feel better again, they need to join forces and face the wedding from hell....as a couple. The deal is quite simple: they pretend to be a couple in love, she eases him to get the property he needs, and in exchange he helps her build her business again and face the evil groom and bride. It could be easy, if it weren't for the demon-couple getting married and their feelings getting in the way. They were both burnt deeply, they are afraid of letting people in (with good reason). But more than that: after spending time together, they are scared of their feelings for each other. Their connection and chemistry come so naturally. They have an easy banter, as if they have known each other for years. They truly enjoy each other's company, they root for each other, they bring the best out of each other and they amazingly respect each other. This book brought such a sensitive topic about abusive relationship. Stella was abused for years by both Matt (her ex-boyfriend) and Karen (her so called best friend), but not phisically, so it was way harder for her to realize she was being abused and belittled. But being with Beck, even if by pretending at first, showed her what a respectful relationship is suposed to be like. And what started as a pretend turns out to be very real. It was so pretty seeing Beck and Stella together, how they cared about each other so deeply. One's fight was important for the other, and the other's hurt was a fuel for the one to make things right. They were a match, they fit, they were right for each other. They faced their fears and insecurities because they knew some things were worth fighting for and there were prizes you just couldn't let go. My heart is still fulled and I miss this characters already (I just hope we get to see Beck's friend's stories and then we get to see Beck and Stella again...one can hope!).
