  • A delight.

I came late to the Virginia Woolf party but I'm glad I finally got there. I have never before read such an elegant exploration of the human soul. Each character is so vividly realized, the reader feels that one knows them personally. It is in turns lovely and heart rending while being perfectly mundane. I can't recommend it enough.

  • Powerful

Confusing at first, yet powerfully written. I love how it grews within me as i progressed page by page.

  • Still brilliant

It's still brilliant. I read it first 50 years' ago and have just read it having first read The Hours by Michael Cunningham, something I'd recommend doing. Woolf's novel is compelling and evocative as it drives the reader into the heart of inter-war London for one day. The characters are so well developed and complex and the plot and structure, so new for the time, are highly engaging.

  • Beautiful

Pure english music and grace. Deep story inside a colorful and apparently light setting...
