  • Medieval Murder and Riddles to be Solved

In Murder Most Holy Paul Doherty transports us back to 13th century London - the crowded, narrow streets, the beggars, the roaming dogs and pigs, the piles of refuse and the stink! Sir John Cranston and his scribe, Friar Athelstan, have murders to solve at Blackfriars Abbey (where Athelstan started his studies as a friar). Sir John has also accepted a wager from the Italian Ambassador to solve a riddle. If not solved Sir John becomes a vassal of the King. Once again Sir John and Athelstan join forces in their unique ways to solve these puzzles. The ascetic Athelstan forms a perfect foil to exuberant Sir John and the fun begins.

  • Murder Most Holy

An excellent read. The book has an unexpended ending. Doherty is an entertaining author and his characters are down to earth.

  • Sensational

Doherty writes in a sympathetic manner, creating likable characters and loathsome characters. I am a fan of Athelstan and also of Sir John Cranston both of whom offer mutual respect and support. I am hopeful that the beautiful Benedicta and Athelstan eventually give in to their feelings!
