  • Striking but unfocussed

This is a fascinating novel set in Ireland during the Black Death. There are many striking images and set pieces, but I found it difficult to keep up with many different and singular characters as the book constantly switches viewpoints. I also found the ending unsatisfying because it just stopped. But I suspect that this sense of disorientation is the author's intention, meant to convey the confusion and societal breakdown of the time.

    Thanks for your feedback!
