  • Good read, a harrowing sea story of WW2.

This was rather a long read but a harrowing one in places when he described the U-boat merchant ship conflict. In the early years of WW2, the merchant ship casualties made it a wonder that they could ever find crews to sign on again.

  • An impressive story of bravery on the high seas.

The story tells in graphic terms of the constant U boat threat that the Royal Navy and the Merchantmen endured early in the 2nd World War. Great depth of knowledge shown by the author.

  • Sitting ducks for Uboats.

Harrowing, detailed account of the merchant ship convoys of WW2 that helped keep Britain fed and in the war despite being sitting ducks for the merciless attacks of marauding Nazi submarines. An authentic history of that period, leavened by some romance and the dry humour and disciplined bravery of sailors who could do nothing about their fate,
