  • Injustice

Highly readable history of a great injustice to black share croppers who tried to organize in order to get fairer shares in the sale off the crop. This triggered outrage by the white population who formed posses to kill any blacks that joined the organization In the killings that followed a white man was killed likely in crossfire by other whites. The blacks were blamed for his death, in particular the black union organizers. Many blacks were jailed, tortured 7 sentenced to long prison terms. Twelve black men were sentenced to death. A black lawyer was able after much struggle to free all of black men. The book is an education in how the law in the U.S. enabled such injustices to the black population.
