  • Heart-warming and Cathartic

A heart-warming story that will leave you with a gentle, cathartic feel. The three main women in this story are struggling to figure out who they are: One, a car crash victim with retrograde amnesia who literally doesn't know who she is; another, a "Wandsworth wife" whose rather privileged life is turned upside down when her husband loses his job; and the last, a mother with two adult sons who has lost her husband, and consequently, her way. All three stories are interwoven around the story of an old shabby family-run hotel which is also facing a bit of an identity crisis. This book is about finding oneself, about facing and accepting change and fundamentally about the fact that who you've been isn't necessarily who you are. Add in two brothers; one who can do no wrong and one who can do no right, and a basset hound called Lord Bob, who I genuinely think is more savvy than the lot of them, and you have a beautiful story (sometimes sad, sometimes funny, but wholly moving) that I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish. A real joy of a book and one I highly recommend.... 4.5 stars (I struggle to give out 5s, but this one came close for me!)
