  • An adorably cute and smile inducing book

Actual rating 4.5 stars This was exactly what I was hoping for - a sweet, fun, and easy romance. Yes, it was predictable (which is the only reason it's not a 5 star read for me), but in the best possible way. The author creates likeable characters and situations that you can relate to. No, I've never had a pet bunny and all the antics that go along with that, but yes, I've had crazy siblings and parents all up in my business. Lily's home life and family were definitely a highlight for me because they felt real. Families are messy and silly, and at times will drive you crazy, but they're your crazy and I loved being able to see the Abbott family maneuver through all the madness and show how much they truly loved each other. *SPOILER* I love the enemies to lovers trope, and Lily and Cade did not disappoint. I liked the banter and misunderstandings, as well as the swoons and tender moments that happened as the pieces started to fall into place for our characters. Let's be honest. We aren't reading these books for some mind blowing plot twist/mystery. Well, at least I'm not! I thought Lily and Cade had great chemistry and I was definitely rooting for them to get their HEA. Their letters back and forth to each other made me smile and giggle, and I loved watching them get to know each other without the drama of their pasts clouding their words. I'm sure some readers will be turned off by the predictable plot line and typical YA tropes, but if you're looking for an adorably cute and smile inducing book that will leave you feeling happy, P.S. I Like you is it.

  • If you like contemporary YA...

Having read slim to none of the 2016 goodreads choice awards nominees, I figured I'd better get familiar with a few so I can at least participate in the voting process. P.S. I Like You is a nominee in the best young adult fiction category and the audio was available at my local library. Six hours of easy-peasy listening enjoyment... P.S. I Like You was an easy and simple read with a surprise depth in unexpected places. I found it to be very clean and cutsie YA with innocent high school characters appropriate for the genre. Unfortunately, I didn't have any emotional response to this story whatsoever and my rating reflects this. However, it should be noted that contemporary YA just doesn't do much for me anymore so this could be the issue and not the book. Many readers appear to have enjoyed this so if you are a fan of this genre, it's worth checking out. My favorite quote: “I folded the letter and carefully placed it back in its spot. Now I had to wait twenty-four hours for a response. This was so much less gratifying than texting.”

  • This story was simply adorable!

4.5/5 Stars This story was simply adorable! I really gravitated toward the musical aspect of the story. I love how the two lead characters connected through song lyrics which then opened them up to explore more of each other's personalities and lives. The fact that it was anonymous throughout most of the story really brought out the suspense and the need to keep reading. The characters in this book were fantastic! I adored Lily and her amazingly normal and dysfunctional family that reminded me so much of my own- both growing up as a child and my own family now that I have children of my own. I really felt a connection to her character and I loved the close family representation. I actually laughed out loud during the Halloween scene because I could totally see that same situation play out in my own family. It really brought a lasting smile to my face. Lily's close family balances out Cade's family issues. It's so easy to feel for him once you find out about his family life. I loved the side characters as well. The aspect of friendship was really important in this book. The romance is so sweet. Like, too adorable for words. I love how the romance played out anonymously with the exchanging of notes and letters in Chemistry class. The characters get to know each other without filters. Without having to fear spilling any secrets to anyone in particular. It is safe and it lets their true personalities shine through. They fall in love through these letters and then they both found out who the other writer is without the other one knowing. They both think that the other person hates them and will stop writing if they found out the truth so they keep up the letters while fighting their inner feelings. But they have to deal with their feelings in the end, but Lily has to decide how to go about it. Stop writing cold turkey and forget or confront the boy she is so crazy for. While I enjoyed the plot of this book, I knew what was going to happen from the very beginning. I wasn't surprised by anything. I knew who the boy was from the start and so the mystery wasn't really that mysterious for me. Watching Lily trying to figure it out was suspenseful, but I wish that it has been for me as well. Apart from the utterly severe predictability in the story, I have no complaints. Overall, this was such a fun and entertaining read. There are parts that will melt your heart and parts that will make you laugh. If you are a YA contemporary fan then this should be on your shelf!
