  • Worth reading

I really enjoyed this book. It is well written and it is clever how the disparate characters' lives intertwine

  • Unusually deep and satisfying.

Four disparate character's lives intersect in London, the paradise city' of the title. However, their lives are far from paradisical as they are all carrying deep grief, which they deal with in different ways. Additionally, one of them in particular has suffered huge cruelty and we see her gradually learning how to deal with this. Day is particularly good at showing how people's suffering can make them selfish and unkind, but still redeemable. This is a much more cheerful read than I've made it sound though!
