    Blown away!

Stitch by stitch, Toni Aleo has delivered an amazing spin on some classic characters that leave you breathless and begging for more. Pieces is a unique and stunning tale of Rebecca who is a descendant of Frankenstein and finding her place in an remarkable world of the paranormal and trying to find her place and be free. I know what you are all probably thinking, that Aleo is known for hockey. Well now, to me, she is know for PNR. The detail and the backstories involved in this novel left me guessing and wanting to know more. Rebecca is your typical teen but wait.. She’s stitched together physically but also emotionally. She is such a feisty character that you just want to root for her. Enter Killian and he throws her life off kilter. She starts wanting to be her own person and oh boy does she ever give as good as she gets. Killian is smooth, allbet a vamp but doesn’t help Rebecca for feeling something for him. The twists that end up occurring left me speechless and totally blow away. The whole premise of this novel is amazing. I like PNR but it is not my go to, however, what Aleo delivers in this novel will make her my go to. She left me guessing, questioning, screaming and having a lot of OMG moments. To say I devoured this novel is an understatement. I am very much looking forward to the next in this series because I need to know more.

Pieces (Patchworks #1) by T. Aleo

I love to read sports romances and PNR/Urban Fantasy. So when I found out that Toni Aleo, one of my favorite hockey romance authors, was going to write her first PNR, I was thrilled. I was also not disappointed. Pieces had a different feel than her other books, but it was just as spectacular as her previous work. The story takes place in contemporary New York. There is a secret supernatural community called the Works that is made up of five species: vampires, wolves, shifters, witches, and the patchworks. The Works and Patchworks are both headed by our heroine, Rebecca von Stein’s, father, William von Stein. William’s claim to fame was discovering immortality. Rebecca is the youngest of four children and the only daughter. To say she is overprotected and smothered is an understatement. My heart went out to poor Rebecca whose life is essentially being part of a continual and painful science experiment. To top things off, she becomes a target to those opposed to her father. The plot was amazing. I like that the main character is a descendent of Doctor Frankenstein. That was a clever take that I have never come across before in a paranormal novel. The story is full of supernatural politics and conspiracy. There are numerous unexpected twists that kept me mesmerized. T. Aleo does an incredible job with her character development. I love Rebecca. She just wants to be normal, and her life is anything but that. She is compassionate and clever. I enjoyed Killian’s character. He is mysterious and brave. I cannot wait to see how the two progress in the next book. I read a lot. Sometimes I feel like I'm rereading the same thing. Pieces felt refreshing and new. So if you enjoy paranormal/urban fantasy, and are looking for something different, go no further. You will definitely want to check out this book. I am highly anticipating book two. Complimentary copy provided in exchange for an honest review.

    Amazing new release!

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review. This was one interesting read. I did take a little bit to get into the book but after the first two chapters I was hooked. Rebekah was an intriguing character, always trying to prove herself and gain some freedom. Enter Killian, someone with whom she feels a connection and yet is very mysterious, knowing nothing about him. As the story progresses the suspense increases and the reader is left trying to put together the pieces, struggling with that task.I certainly did not expect anything that happened, and every new reveal was a shock. There is a cliffhanger that does leave you on edge, wanting to demand what happens next. Toni Aleo has certainly expanded her boundaries from hockey romance successfully and I look forward to any more of her ventures into different genres!
