    Who knew

After the first few pages of this book it seemed as if there were villains everywhere. This is an unusual WWII novel in that it actually looks at the actions of the fifth column in preparation for Operation Sealion. Not everyone is who he seems and secrets abound. Mattie Brogan is an interesting East Londoner because she has ambitions to further her education and a desire to play her part in winning the war, despite the assumptions of the woman who interviews her for war work. This book also looks at the anti-Semitic attitudes of some parts of the community and, once Mussolini committed Italy on Germany's, the irrational anti-Italian hysteria that broke out. The romance in this book is not what it seems and there are unanswered threads at the end which seem to point to a sequel. I hope so because I would love to know where the characters go from here.
