  • Just great

A real thrilling and exciting read. Philip Kerr drive us through two adventures of our good friend Bernie and as usual I learned a lot about a specific episode of the construction of the nazi regime and the corruption thereof which ensued . I am just disappointed that I finished the book so quickly (while being a big book) and I am already looking forward to reading the next episode of Bernie 's life.

  • Gripping

More gripping back story of Bernie Gunther. He is at his best when trying to work with and survive the Nazis. A great read.

  • Curate's egg - good in (only a few) parts.

Have read all the Bernie Gunther novels and have enjoyed them immensely, except this one. I got the impression that Kerr is running out of ideas and momentum. The characters are a little 2-dimensional and the plot far too predictable. As always, Kerr's research into the period is faultless but that's the only redeeming factor. Perhaps time to put Bernie into retirement?

    Thanks for your feedback!
