  • Where is the plot?

I have to say I'm rather disappointed. Beneath the loud and frequent disapproval of prejudice and closed mindedness there is surprisingly little plot. I think it can be aptly summed up as Moist Von Lipwig facilitates the building of a railroad. If that doesn't sound very exiting, that's because it isn't. So why still 3 stars? In the end, I did enjoy reading it. It has it's familiar characters that we know and love, and there are plenty of witty fragments to make you grin. Less so than what we've become used to on the disc, but good enough to recommend at least to discworld fans.

  • Another excellent story

As with some previous books Terry Pratchett uses as a theme something with which we are all familiar and weaves the Discworld Magic through it. Matching the pioneers of railway invention Dick Simnel develops his locomotives and builds lines to all corners of the planet(?) beset all the time by political interference and ordinary people of all realms and ethnic groups. And as with other books this has a twist at the end which this reader didn't see coming- but then perhaps that's just me, enjoying a jolly good read!

  • He is still unbeaten

Even with his illness no other author I know of is even close to his ability to create a mirror of our world that enlightens, delights and amuses.

  • Moist is back

This character is back with new adventures- love his resilience and creativity in adversity. Vetinari is still the best though
