  • A superb antidote to literalism

    I read this over a year ago now, but neglected to review it at the time. Suffice it to say it is so readable, engaging and yet scholarly that I have gone on to read several more of Borg's books since then.

  • A must read for modern christians

    Let us admit that there are parts of the bible that many people have reading the bible literally true. As a professor of English I am aware of different genres. The writer recognises that the bible is not a flat text rather recognises there are different styles. Accordingly he seeks to consider the bible as litrature and read the bible litterarily not literal. As a doubting Thomas this method gives a powerful meaning to the texts that does not ask you to commit intellectual suicide.
