  • Carla's great

I enjoyed the last two stories in this anthology which both fit the Regency trope so well, but Carla Kelly was the reason I bought the ebook. She has such a wonderful understanding of the Royal Navy and this is not the first Regency she has set during the time of the Treaty of Amiens when naval officers went on half pay. Captain Grey's story seems odd when you read the blurb - how could it take eleven years to receive the reply to a marriage proposal - but the circumstances make it highly probable. The character of Winnie is also unusual because she is not your usual Regency miss, but you must read the book to find out why she is so unusual. Unlike some of her other naval Regencies, here Ms Kelly has introduced a note of very sweet whimsy which allows the most amazing coincidences to occur. I like the naval officers who appear as Ms Kelly's heroes because they really are officers and gentlemen, even if they weren't born into the gentlemanly classes. Can't wait for the next offering. By the way, check out 'Christmas Angles' - no, it's not a spelling mistake, and if you're a Carla Kelly fan, you'll love Sailing Master Able Six!

    Thanks for your feedback!
