    Biography plus

Coetzee experiments with autobiography in this trilogy. In the first two books, he goes beyond the normal descriptions in an autobiography and enters the mysterious underworld of the human personality with all its frailties. In Summertime, he goes beyond this by writing the autobiography through a number of characters he was related to. Whether fiction or not, one gets a deeper view of the vulnerable human being that he is. I was truly engaged and the writing is sparse but beautiful.
