A real page turner which showcases a tale from WA

I have just finished "Secrets Mothers Keep" by Linda J Bettenay. This was a far different genre to most books I read - it was a gift to me from my own mother. I absolutely loved the book and commend the author for the wonderful word pictures she has developed. It was a real page turner. As an avid reader and keen student of history, I have read quite a few historical novels and this story ranks right up there with the best of them. It is amazing to have such a tragic yet well told and ultimately uplifting story set in this beautiful part of the world. I look forward to reading more of Linda J Bettenay's books in the future. Amazing true story - hidden for 85 years!

To read Secrets Mothers Keep is to be drawn into the life of an extraordinary woman with a chilling secret. The author, Linda Bettenay, has cleverly woven her narrative around a true event from Western Australia’s history; an incident, and its powerful ramifications, which has been hidden since 1928, when it was front page news and the scoop of the year. I loved this novel. I was swept into the story of the three main characters and hurtled on an emotional roller-coaster ride of excitement, sympathy, suspense, horror and, ultimately, approval for a brave decision I’m grateful I’ll never be called upon to make. Though set in the past, the novel has a clear and timeless theme; some secrets have to be kept and mothers, in particular, often bear the heavy burdens these secrets exact. I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a full-blooded story, very well told. Sue Mc Kalbarri Western Australia
