  • Jess Hill writes a great book we should all read.

Ok so this is a hard read in places but it's also very insightful and a wonderfully balanced view of the topic. Hill looks not only at local problems, solutions and issues, but also draws on work done overseas, mainly in the US and UK. Hill doesn't dwell on the 'horror' stories but uses real experiences to inform us (and she does inform, no rehashing of this topic), and illustrate issues and problems. My only criticism of this book is that it doesn't offer any avenues for action on this issue. Options are probably very clear to Hill but the average reader would probably be grateful for some suggestions as to what we might do to help improve things in our own communities. A really good read on a very tough and very necessary topic. I hope all senior police officers read this book, and maybe all decision makers in the Family Court.

Jess Hill has managed something few authors can achieve, to pull together a balanced, well researched comentary on a highly emotive topic. A book that every Australian shuld read.Thank you to every person who shared their story, your courage will stay with me for many years to come.

  • Learning about my own domestic abuse

I came to the same title of the documentary’s advert while I was waiting on Sunday night wondering what will happen to the common assault preliminary court my not yet divorced husband going to have on Monday. I read this book as I couldn’t wait for the Wednesday show on air. You have confirmed that I had done the right thing.
