    Siren Misfit by Eve Langlais

Siren Misfit by Eve Langlais 2nd in the Misfit series. Can be read without having read the first book because there is a LOT of backstory in this one. Mostly the first third of the pages are herstory and explaining but it moves quickly and gives a good sense of who Lana is and when she first met Jory. Lots of humor. Strong snark and personality of both Lana and Jory. Amusing and wonderful. The lesson for Lana: be the one you’re meant to be. Excerpt of typical humor: “The kraken saw him coming and let out a sound, kind of like Bjorn the last time his wife had caught a barmaid stroking his beard before she dragged him out of the pub by the ear.” Excerpt From Siren Misfit by Eve Langlais

    Misfits of the world, unite!

Poor Lana! Half siren, half mermaid, and deathly afraid of the ocean! Her salt water tub soaks are as close as she can get to soothing herself, but still the briny deep seems to call her to her death. Her nightmares are getting worse, so when a message arrives from the Sirens wanting to meet with her, she has to overcome her fears to go to them. After the battle in Limbo, Lana now has a new admirer in Valhalla warrior, Jory. Not that she has any interest in the hunky man who beats down her door yelling at her to “fix him”. She needs to figure out how to fix herself, and the Sirens may be able to help. Lord knows those Mermaids were no help to her before! Jory finds himself inexplicably drawn to Lana, despite her prickly nature, and refusal to fall at his feet. He’s determined to help her figure out her story, and get the answers she needs. And if there are battles with sea monsters along the way, so much the better! And being rewarded with kisses from Lana? Perfect. Book two of the Misfits series was really enjoyable, and I look forward to Bunny Misfit with Claire’s story. Eve Langlais is a master of world building, and submerging the reader into the story. It is helpful to read book one (Hybrid Misfit) to get the back story and flow, but it isn’t essential to enjoy Siren Misfit. Definitely a raucous good time!

    The Misfit Series rocks!

Sometimes I feel like every time I pick up a new Langlais book I think “ooh, this one is my favorite now!” That’s at least true for The Misfits. I picked up Hybrid Misfit before I dug into this one, and both were fantastic. Langlais explores the idea of experimentation and identity, and Siren Misfit dives even deeper to look at family and belonging. Lana, the half-siren, half-mermaid, doesn’t know how someone like her can exist. Sirens live on land, mermaids in the water. But she’s not about to get any new information as long as the only living sirens refuse to talk to her, and her fear of the ocean keeps her away from meeting her mermaid kin. Enter Jory, who seems like the kind of guy who has never had a thought of self-doubt in his life until the Siren Misfit rejects him. The two of them go on an adventure in this book that will help Lana find answers and face her fears, while they both fall for each other.
