    Finnish Noire in English

I read an article about James Thompson yesterday and bought this, his first novel, right away. It is strange to read a novel set in Finland that is so obviously not a translation into English. According to Thompson's blog, some Perussuomalaiset supporters take exception to his books because they paint such a dark portrait of Finland. It is indeed a dark portrait, but noire set in any country will be dark. The character that I identify the most with is the American wife of the protagonist who has a succesful career in Lapland but is frustrated by her inability to speak the language. I guess I am going to have to buy the next two books in the series.
