  • Strangely dissatisfying

I expected to find an honest reflection of John Cleese‘s life. Unfortunately, this is very much a sanitised version of events leading up to the formation of the pythons. Despite his oft mentioned therapy, it appears that Cleese is unable or unwilling to throw off his cloak of middle class English good manners and reveal the truth about his emotions. The overall effect is to provide a shallow chronology of the authors schooldays and career to the establishment of the python team. As Cleese claims to be a comic writer of some skill and experience he seems to have found a way to disguise that. The book is barely amusing and feels unfinished.

    Thanks for your feedback!
