  • Worth reading yes, just be open - minded.

Interesting, always love being able to use that universal , vague word. Brave man to have been sailing at that time in his life. He never inferred that he was in excellent physical condition, but he seems to have endured endless physical challenges while at sea. In spite of his personal wish to circumnavigate he , according to his log-story had endless mechanical problems, even when he installed new equipment??? For me there were many hard to believe situations and events. Some technical, some chronological. I did muster many chuckles while reading, all the while thinking of the Crowhurst Charade. I had thought at times why he didn't use a better editor.... but then maybe he thought it all sounded believable.

  • Fantastic story of an extraordinary character

I've read Slocum, Moitessier, Knox-Johnston etc. but in my opinion, in more ways than one Les Powles' story tops them all. In addition to that, he's a really good writer, and has a distinctive, laugh-out-loud style of humour which I found extremely refreshing, rarely found in a sailing book.

  • Inshore sailor, Offshore dreamer

I enjoyed reading the account of this great sailor's exploits. What a marvelous life he has had to date. He has endured a lot more than most if us will, and yet he still came back to the sea for more. I salute you, and wish there were more like you in the world. I recommend this book to you.
