  • A SPECIAL READ

The story evolves around an orphan who discovers she is an heiress. Anna Snow is 25 years old and has lived most of her life in an orphanage in Bath at which she is now a teacher. Out of the blue she receives a letter from a solicitor informing her that he has sent a chaise to take her to London where, upon arrival she is told she is the daughter of the late Earl of Riverdale and that she has become a very rich woman. Here she meets her new relations and acquaintances one of which is Avery, the Duke of Wetherby, the first person to appreciate that Anna's pleasant, demure manner hides a steel backbone, and he is rather surprised he rather likes and admires her for it. He is witty and charming and the relationship that develops between him and Anna is an unexpected mutual attraction. I admired both of them, they made this book special. This was a great journey that I found amusing. Once again Mary Balogh does an excellent job of creating a host of wonderful characters. This is the first in the Westcott series, and I look forward to continuing on with the series.
