  • A 1940's ghostly P.I. !

This was an interesting read. The premise was what attracted me to this book. Max Porter and his wife have left Michigan after Max ran into trouble at his job. They chose to settle in N.C. after accepting a job from a mysterious employer. When Max arrives at his "new" office, he is told he cannot move any of the furniture and he can't use a computer. Soon Max discovers he has a ghost, a 1940's P.I. that wants Max to break the binding spell that is holding him captive to the office. As Max starts researching what his new boss wants and trying to solve how to help Drummond (the ghost) Max and his wife, Sarah become targets as other forces don't want them to continue. While at times, some of the dialog was sort of stilted, it still moved along. I didn't like Max's mother. She was a total idiot and I'm sick of reading about dumb females. Since it's written current day, I don't understand why this person acted like someone from the 50's. On the other hand, Sarah is a strong female character that I really liked. She is smart and capable to hold her own. I enjoyed this story, enough that I downloaded 3 more books featuring these interesting characters.

  • Good Read

I loved this story. It was enjoyable from the start. A good mix of action, plot and intrigue. Thugs, hero's, ghosts and mysteries. Treat yourself and pick this up.

  • Both Good and Bad

Spoilers Both good and bad. I enjoyed parts of the story for the excitement and some of the local colour. I thought that Max and his wife were solid characters, but a little whiny at times. I also enjoyed Marshall Drummond, the ghost although he didn't really play a significant role in the story. I thought that two groups working for Hull with one helping and the other hindering Max was pretty ridiculous. I was also disappointed by the fact that no rules for the world were in play. If you're going to have ghosts, then explain why. They seem to get to go someplace (heaven?) but they can leave at any time? Then why was the graveyard so full? At the end of the book I was almost looking forward to the next one, but then I remembered that things I didn't like about this and decided against it. Life is too short and there are too many books to read.

  • Southern Bound

Another new author to me and I like it's style. Lots of different characters to keep track of and an intriguing mystery to solve. A little romance always makes me smile too. Thanks for the story.
