  • And the winner is Syd-en-ney

All Spec Ops stories occur in nebulous timeframes that are never specified, but here is a story tied to the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the one then IOC President, Juan Antonio Samaranch, deemed the best Olympic Games ever at the closing ceremony. Since Sydney is my city I am really glad this is fiction although I know there was an inordinate amount of training conducted by our SAS (Australia's equivalent of the US Delta Force) and a lot of Blackhawks on practice patrols in the months prior to the Games. When you are familiar with the setting of a novel the events occur with so much more clarity. Given the events which took place against the Israeli team in Munich, having the male protagonist being from the IDF makes so much sense in terms of situational alertness and the belief that a terrorist attack might be a viable threat. As always, the Medusas show themselves to be a force to be reckoned with and not one to be underestimated. A very exciting plot, a cautious romance and descriptions of good food - what more could you ask for? As for the title of this review - if you can locate footage of Samaranch naming the city that won the bid for the 2000 Olympics...

    Thanks for your feedback!
