  • A very pleasant surprise.

This second Karin Müller novel has the same well researched authenticity as the first and moves at an even faster pace. Karin is already a very real character and hopefully will become more mature as her life and career progress. Very much looking forward to her next saga.

  • A rollercoaster story told very well.

A police procedural with many twists and turns set in East Germany in the mid- 1970's. A sometimes convoluted plot with well drawn characters from many parts of the political spectrum even though living in a totalitarian State. The scenes about 80% of the way through could be considered preposterous on the one hand or an homage to the capacity of women to endure extreme setbacks when that isvwhat

  • Well paced and atmospheric crime novel

A more complex tale than the standard detective novel, which also managed to display the stultifying atmosphere of the DDR without ever being condemning. It may have received 4 stars but, about two-thirds through the timeline jumps all over the place for no good reason. Another minor criticism is that whilst it works well as a standalone novel, there are constant references to the previous book, which does make you think you may be missing out on something. Overall, a good, undemanding read and I will proceed to the next one in the series.

  • Another Stasi thriller

A great follow-up to Stasi Child, a real insight to life in East Germany of the period. The plot is well thought out, coming to a nail-biting climax. I look forward to reading the future exploits of Karin Muller, although it's difficult to imagine how she will cope now, being a mother as well.
