    A Great Read

This is one that will stay with you long after you put it down. I don't generally love dystopian fiction but found the characters so well drawn and the descriptions of the initial breakout so vivid that it completely drew me in.

    Beautifully written!

This book was really a page-turner. You never know what to expect, all the way to the end. For someone looking for a conclusion, there isn't much of one, but this book is beautifully written. So live in the words and you'll enjoy it tremendously.

One of the best post-apocalyptic novels

Beautifully written. A totally believable vision of a post-flu virus destroyed world. I have read many apocalyptic novels, this was one of the best. Would love a follow-up novel as the characters were so interesting.

    Intriguing

I read this book during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 so it was very relevant. Quite haunting

The sweetness of life on earth

Station Eleven is a fictional space station, damaged and marooned in outer space and unable to return home. Doctor Eleven is a graphic novel, left in an actor's dressing room in Toronto, Canada, just before a SARS pandemic overtakes the city. The story follows the fortunes of a handful of the people who pour out of the city. They endure shocking violence and hardships; in a lawless land there are only two ways to survive: by preying on other people, or by banding together for mutual help and protection. The story is taken up 20 years later, as their paths converge and for many of them arrive at an isolated colony in an abandoned airport. Careful plotting is an outstanding feature of the book. The lives we follow are linked by memories, events, relationships, and by the things they carry with them, carefully preserved in their rucksacks. These links firmly structure the complex narrative. Located between north-west America and Canada, this scenario could represent any first world country where daily life depends on sophisticated systems of transport and communications. We could be one of these people, deprived of advanced technology, left to scratch out an existence in a hostile world. A beautifully written book, gripping, frightening, full of haunting images, it ends on a message of hope. Written in 2014, definitely a book for 2020
