This book gives the reader wonderful insight into British society in the 20th century and the prejudice against the Roms. I was born in the 1950's in Scotland and remember all too well when the "tinkers" (our name for Travellers ") came and camped on the common. Their children were obliged to attend school and I can see them now, little kids dressed up in what we would call party clothes sitting in the back row of the class in case they gave us germs. The truth be known it was more likely to be one of us so called normal kids to infect them with scabies or nits! They were teased by us mercilessly and I reflect back and see that we were only mirroring our parents attitudes towards Travellers. This was a book that you can't put down! The author has a gift for story telling and she's colorful and extremely interesting. If you love learning about different cultures you will love this book.

    Thanks for your feedback!
