Did not really understand the storyline. The past and the nowaday life did not fit together

    Good story, inconsistent

Though I liked the story I felt the book was a bit inconsistent, trying to touch so many things at a time, being messy in the process (but such is life). I also got distracted by the structure and didnt quite catch the meaning of the alternate plot/time lines, neither why some scenes are so detailed (the african interludes, for example) while others are just skimmed over (after all that was said about the childhood video, its consequences to the story are near zero...)

    Not for me

This is an extract from the book and sums up perfectly what I think of it: “...., it seemed to be made out of many little pieces, like a stained-glass window, and I did not know which parts were important...”I expected more when I began reading, but it was huge disappointment.

    Disappointing read.

I have to say I was disappointed by this Zadie Smith book. I loved her others. This one doen't seem to know what it is. It's very disjointed. I couldn't relate to any of the character especially the narrator as she seems to have no life of her own and lives vicariously through others.
