  • Great Characters!!

Very Entertaining!! This second book in the Quinn and Costa series makes a powerful statement about the world we live in. Quinn and his team are sent in to investigate the murder of a activist and discover more than they bargained for. I am an looking forward to seeing how the relationship between Kara and Matt develops in future books. “I’m so screwed,” Matt said. “Oh?” Now Tim was smiling. “Keep this to yourself. It’s…complicated.” “You fell hard, didn’t you. For someone on your squad.” “She wasn’t on my squad when I fell for her.”

  • better than book 1

This is the second book in the Quinn and Costa series and I liked this one more than the first. Costa has for the most part established his team and the plot focused more on the case. Trying to do an undercover operation in a small town where everyone knows everything about everyone else is tough, but this is the task. We start off with two crimes which turns into three. Can the team manage them all and who can they trust? While I figured out part of where the book was headed fairly early on, I wasn’t fully sure who was trustworthy and enjoyed the unfolding of the details. This one is a good crime procedural, that is story driven and has good character development.

  • Complicated Case

This was a very complicated and complex case for Quinn & Costa. The team investigates a murder of a young college student. Things get very complicated after that. This book takes place a couple months after the first book. The relationship with Quinn & Costa becomes more entangled and more interesting to follow. I can't wait to see what the author does with the two of them. This case has a domino effect to it. Reader you will enjoy unraveling the mystery of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily after being sent a free book.

  • Gritty & Impressive

Golly, this impressive second instalment in Allison Brennan’s series centring on the FBI’s Mobile Response Team turned out to be a little gem! This newly formed part of the FBI consists of highly specialised agents who are top in their field, be it forensics, crime scene specialists or investigators. They are operational primarily in rural areas and in Tell No Lies the team is undercover in Patagonia, Arizona as they investigate a murder that leads to the local copper refinery possibly dumping toxic waste in the desert. FBI special agent Mathias (Matt) Costa has LAPD Detective on loan to the FBI, Kara Quinn working as a bartender in the local bar where the refinery workers and townies socialise. Michael Harris, a former Navy SEAL, takes a job at the refinery and the refinery owner’s son becomes an informant. When another dead body is found, the case becomes much more complicated as they realise the quiet town has links to several other criminal activities. Kara is such a fiercely independent, strong and unique protagonist with a strong sense of justice. There is chemistry between her and Matt, and they also share a mutual respect for one another however, their growing connection is not the main focus of this book. Matt himself is shrewd, level-headed and makes a marvellous leader. The mystery element in Tell No Lies is magnificent and totally engaging. The tight time-frame keeps the plot rolling, with no opportunity to become mired in tediousness. The procedural aspects are solid with the coordination and teamwork of the investigators coming through winningly. Tell No Lies is wonderfully written in a style I relish and I was in my element reading this dark and gritty tale. This is a great second instalment in what has so far turned out to be a stellar series. I enjoyed Tell No Lies so much that I’m reading the books from Allison Brennan’s other series and cannot wait for her next in this one. A special thank you to MIRA Books and the author for a complimentary copy of this novel at my request, received via NetGalley. This review is my unbiased opinion.

  • Love This Thrilling Page Turner

I loved Tell No Lies by Allison Brennan, the second book in her Quinn and Costa series. Tell No Lies kept me on the edge of my seat and up many late nights reading. Allison Brennan as once again proven that she is a wonderful storyteller who always delivers truly page turning thrillers. I loved every page and could not put it down. Tell No Lies is filled with all those things that we have come to love and expect in a Allison Brennan thriller. Especially the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner, and the many surprise plot-twists. Tell No Lies is the story of the newly created D.C. based FBI mobile response team, under the leadership of Mathias "Matt" Costa, and team members: L.A. detective Kara Quinn, white-collar crimes expert Zack Heller, team analyst Ryder Kim, veteran Navy SEAL Michael Harris, and forensics expert Jim Esteban. The team is in Patagonia, Arizona trying to solve the murder case of Emma Perez. The investigation starts with the premise of illegal dumping of slag by Southwest Copper. Kara is working undercover as a bartender at The Wrangler, the local bar and Michael is working his first undercover case inside Southwest Copper. Matt is working with Joe Molina, the son of the owner of Southwest Copper, John Molina. The case takes some surprise twists and turns, and it ends up being so much more that illegal dumping. I love how the team is able to gather the information and connect all the pieces of the case together to find the killer and what is really going on in Patagonia. I love that there is a hint of a relationship between Matt and Kara. Cannot wait to see what happens between them in the coming books. Like all of Allison Brennan's, Tell No Lies is filled with incredible characters, thrilling plot twists and unexpected turns of events. I really love everything about this series and cannot wait for the upcoming books in the series. Allison Brennan continues to amaze me with her writing and to deliver incredible thrillers. Highly recommend this thriller.
