  • Epic

An entertaining and useful intro to Texas history & geography before a visit. This is also Michener's take on Texas character, flaws and contradictions. Not literature but not predictable either.

  • TEXAS

This was an education for a non-Texan, by the best story teller of them all. After reading this novel, I can now understand a little about the few Texans that I know. They are different!

  • A good history

A little dated history of Texas but Michener always adds life to his characters and writes a compelling read

  • Good but I found it long.

I found the book too long, it was to graphic at times. The story was informative and well writte..

  • Understanding Texans

An excellent fact based fiction that sheds light on Texan values from a non-Texan perspective. I found it relevant in 2018 in shedding light on the history that helps explain gun ownership issues in the states in general and the south in particular along with the distrust of central government. As a Canadian, I found the novel highly informative as well as entertaining, as are all Michener novels that I have read.
