  • The advent killer

A bit slow at the start but then the reader is taken on a fast paced journey with several red herrings before the final chapters. A great first novel and I look forward to the next one.

  • The advent killer

Good read. Great to have a woman in charge, so not too macho

  • great start to a new series

Pulled in right from the first chapter I was unable to put the book down. Halfway through the story I became really annoyed with Antonia Hawkins. Maybe it is this hard to be a female DCI, but she trusted nobody and thought about nothing and nobody but herself. Ugh! But even so I really enjoyed reading the first book about DCI Hawkins.’Til the end I was not 100% sure who the killer was and when he was revealed, the real horror had just started for DCI Hawkins. Solid start to a new, well written and thrilling crime series. Recommended! I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin UK!

  • Quite satisfying

Alastair Gunn is a new author for me but "The Advent Killer" won't be the last work I read of his as I found this book quite satisfying. Please be aware that this isn't a cosy Christmas story in any way, shape or form but definitely one to curl up with on a cold winter's day. DCI Antonia Hawkins is lead officer in her first murder case and it couldn't be a worse first case ... a serial killer is on the loose - they know when he/she is going to strike next but not who or where and there are virtually no clues left behind. Can DCI Hawkins and her team track the killer down before the next victim is brutally murdered? Written at a good pace with interesting characters and intriguing story line, which although might not be the most complex or unpredictable, it did hold my interest to the end and I am looking forward to reading more from Mr Gunn and getting to know DCI Hawkins and her team a little more. Thank you goes to Penguin UK - Michael Joseph via NetGalley for my copy in return for an honest and unbiased review.

    Thanks for your feedback!
